Weird ass Tech is alive theory I'd not considered until now: he might be wanting everyone to think he's dead so he can successfully infiltrate Mt. Tantiss in some way which wouldn't be possible if anyone thought he was alive. In other words, he Plan 99'd in a way that would leave everyone, even his family, thinking he was dead, on purpose.
At the point in the episode when he opts to shoot out the railcar, they've already blown their chance to track Hemlock. They've also tipped their hand about being alive, about poking around whatever the Empire is up to, etc. In other words they have NOTHING going for them now.
But if Tech is presumed 'dead', he can skulk around on Eriadu, use Tarkin's base as a route into Tantiss. He can't do this with anyone thinking he's alive. Hemlock is probably suspicious; Tarkin has been so dismissive of clone capabilities I expect he's not. So if Tech can pretend to be dead and infiltrate the base in a more legit fashion, he can possibly get himself to Tantiss from the inside, and THEN signal everyone.
I don't know if this works in a general sense but I do like it for bonus points of everyone losing their fucking minds at him when this happens:
'of course I wasn't dead. but I needed you to think I was.'
'you...what.'
'you needed to all think I was dead so the Empire would. Sorry about that.'
'we're gonna need to mourn you all over again when we kill you for real WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO US??????????'
which would be fun! and zany enough it could be a show thing. Anyways, there is another comedy idea to roll with: tech takes the opportunity to fake his own death in true Ludicrous Tech Plan fashion so he can find Mt. Tantiss.
The real reason that Tech survived his fall is that his posture is so scrunched normally that when he hit he just folded up like a slinky and sprung back up immediately.
WAIT HOLD ON
THE MOMENTS WHERE CROSSHAIR IS BEING A TOTAL ASSHOLE TO PEOPLE OUTSIDE THE BATCH
HE MIGHT ACTUALLY JUST BE TRYING TO JOKE WITH THEM BUT HIS HUMOUR DOESNT TRANSLATE
"I don't blame you, I would have left him too" - He helps to save echo n welcome him into the batch
"No use carrying dead weight" - He risks his own life to save mayday
Both times he doesn't back up those words
,,,,,,,its just his humour
. . . Holy crap, that makes so much sense. I mean, Crosshair could also be reflexively asinine to regs & others because of how he & his brothers were othered growing up, but as someone who was born & raised to kill it makes sense he’d have an extremely morbid sense of humor. And the rest of the Batch didn’t get involved with his fight with Rex until Rex put hands on Crosshair, because they KNEW his twisted snark & recognized he wasn’t being serious.
I am, at all times, halfway between “lol, Echo is Mother” memes and “fathers who parent in more traditionally‘feminine’ ways are still fathers/stop gendering emotions” earnestness.
He’s not a mom cause he’s feminine (he’s pretty masculine), he’s a mom cause he just gives mom energy
